Separation Anxiety Therapy for Kids and Teens
What age range do your pediatric separation anxiety experts specialize in?
Kids (ages 3+) and Teens
What does separation anxiety treatment at the Center For CBT entail?
First, we figure out exactly what is maintaining your child's separation anxiety. Every child is different. Some children worry that something bad will happen to a parent. Others fear something bad will happen to themselves. Some have trouble sleeping alone, while others struggle with school drop offs or being away from home. We identify the specific fears and behaviors keeping the anxiety going so we can target them directly.
Your child will be matched with a therapist who is an expert in treating separation anxiety and uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the gold standard treatment for separation anxiety. Treatment is active, goal oriented, and highly practical. Your child will learn skills to reduce their anxious thoughts while gradually practicing being more independent through carefully planned exercises. The length of treatment depends on your child's individual needs, but most children make significant progress within 12 to 16 weeks, often with noticeable improvements much sooner.
Are parents involved in the therapy?
Parents are a very, very important part of treatment. You will be involved in every session, learning strategies alongside your kiddo so that 1. your child gets better faster and 2. if the anxiety tries to pop up again in the future, you'll have the tools to help your child squash it from the start.
